Go-To Party Appetizers

With summer in full swing and a party to go to (or host) just about every weekend, I wanted to share some of my favorite crowd pleasing appetizers! These apps are perfect whether hosting a BBQ, cocktail hour, or to bring something of your own to a friend’s party!

When hosting a get-together, the best thing you can do for yourself is to keep it simple. Forget fretting over a million ingredients. You can make delicious and classy appetizers with just a few simple ingredients. The best part is that your guests will think you slaved over them for hours, when really they only took about 10 minutes to prepare!

  1. Puff Pastry Wrapped Asparagus:
    • Gather 1 bunch of asparagus (about 16 total), 1 puff pastry, 1 whole egg whisked with 1 teaspoon of water, and Himalayan sea salt.
    • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees
    • Lay the puff pastry out on a floured surface. Cut into 16 strips, about 1/2 inch wide.
    • Wrap the asparagus with the puff pastry and put on baking tray lined with parchment paper.
    • Brush the puff pastry with the egg wash mixture and sprinkle with sea salt.
    • Put in the oven for 20 minutes or until pastry is golden brown.
    • Remove and serve immediately with honey mustard for dipping.
  2. Mozzarella, Tomato, and Basil (one of my favorite items to make ahead):
    • Gather cherry tomatoes, a container of basil (or fresh from your yard!), a ball of fresh mozzarella, some toothpicks, fresh olive oil, and Himalayan sea salt.
    • Cut the fresh mozzarella into 1 inch squares.
    • Take a toothpick, put on a tomato, then the basil, then the mozzarella. Repeat until you run out of mozzarella.
    • Place on a serving platter, sprinkle with the sea salt, and lightly drizzle with olive oil.
    • Serve immediately or place in the refrigerator until guests arrive.
  3. Prosciutto Wrapped Melon:
    • Gather a container of already cubed cantaloupe, 1 pound of prosciutto, and toothpicks.
    • Take a piece of melon and a piece of prosciutto that can wrap the melon in a single layer, wrap the melon and place on the toothpick.
    • Place on a serving platter and serve immediately or place in the refrigerator until guests arrive.
  4. Homemade Garlic Hummus and Carrots:
    • Gather 1 can of chick peas, 1 garlic clove, 1/4 cup of olive oil, 2 tablespoons of lemon juice, 1 teaspoon of ground cumin, and Himalayan sea salt.
    • Put all ingredients into a food processor or Vitamix blender. Process until smooth, adding water as needed for desired consistency.
    • Serve in a bowl drizzled with a little olive oil and sprinkled with paprika. Serve with baby carrots or pita chips.
