Your Epidermis Is Showing

Everyone appreciates clear, beautiful, glowing skin. Mine is nowhere near perfect but I have found a few tricks that really help the skin cells function to their fullest potential. 

First things first….DRY SCRUBBING!

If there is anything I learned from Kris Carr (author of Crazy Sexy Diet..go buy it…NOW…it will change your life) it would be to dry brush, and often! I have only been dry brushing for a couple of weeks but I definitely think it is the best thing since sliced bread. If i miss a day I don’t even feel the same. Every morning or night before you shower take a scrub brush and scrub your body from the feet up or from the head down, it doesn’t even matter, do it however feels best for you! But always brush in an upward motion. Dry brushing has many benefits including the following:

  • Improved circulationJapanese Dry Brush
  • Loosens dead skin cells
  • Reduces cellulite
  • Improves your immune system
  • Stimulates acupuncture points
  • Keeps your skin super soft

I use the Japanese brush in the picture at right. I like it because it has a handle and good surface area to get it done in record time. But get whatever suits your fancy, even those exfoliating gloves from your local drugstore.

So what’s next? Hop in the shower! Add this nifty trick to your shower routine. It’s so simple, yet genius. Every couple of minutes switch up the temperature of the water. Go from your usual hot to warm to warm/cool and then back around again. This stimulates your blood to rush back and forth from the surface of the skin and causes the blood cells to vaso-constrict (get smaller) and vaso-dialate (get bigger).  

Final step, and this is huge, MOISTURIZE!! Personally, I only moisturize when I get out of the shower. For some reason I feel like that is when my body absorbs it the most. But you are more than welcome to moisturize before bed as well. When choosing a good body lotion and face moisturizer you should always try to choose organic. What people don’t know is a lot of toxins can be absorbed right through the skin and guess what? Those toxins are in your beauty products! These two have become my staples:

Jason has great natural beauty products and make big bottles of their body lotions so you dont have to re-stock so frequently and gives you more bang for your buck. This one has won over my heart because of the lemon scent which gives me a nice zing in the morning (I think thats why they named it Lemon Zinger). For my face I use Nelson’s Pure & Clear. It contains tea tree oil which helps keep breakouts at bay. I usually mix it with concealer to turn it into a nice tinted moisturizer.

Now, these are just recommendations, so do some experimenting and find out what works best for you and your beautiful epidermis. But also remember, you are what you eat, so keep your diet clean and healthy with plenty of fruits (strawberries!) and veggies (carrots!) and hefty helpings of good ol’ H2O!
