Hemp Seed Love


I know what you’re thinking. Hemp seeds are for hippies right? Not if you’re looking for an easy way to get your daily fill of essential fatty acids Omega-3 and Omega-6! 

Essential fatty acids are called essential because they can only get into our body through food. Our bodies do not make Omega-3 or Omega-6 fatty acids! Therefore, you need to get them through your diet. Many people know that you can get these fatty acids by eating meaty fish (like salmon) and flax seed but can you really eat salmon every day? No, salmon is high in cholesterol so must be consumed in moderation. Can you eat flax everyday? Sure, it makes a great alternative to hemp seed, but some people claim to have digestive problems after eating a lot of flax. 

Essential fatty acids have many benefits. They improve your sight and brain function. Have a test or a large work load? Have some hemp seed the day before and see how your focus changes. They also reduce inflammation, which is the culprit behind almost every chronic disease.

So why do I recommend hemp seed if there are other sources of these amazing essential fatty acids? Because it’s so easy to add to any of your food without really thinking about it! Instead of adding another pill form supplement to your routine add a sprinkle of hemp seed to your yogurt, salad, soup, pasta, smoothie, anything! I have heard that it gives the food a “nutty” flavor, but really I cannot taste a difference.

Hemp seed also has benefits that some of the other sources do not:
